The Espai Bombers – Prevention Park is a museum space and education centre dedicated to prevention and safety. It also acknowledges the social role played by the city’s Fire Brigade in its more than 180 years of existence. MagmaCultura has designed the Park-Museum’s museological project and the executive museographic project with these aims in mind.
The Bombers de Barcelona fire and rescue service has always been an active agent in the city. The initiative to use the former Poble Sec neighborhood station as a space to continue to connect with Barcelona’s residents called for an museological and museographic approach that was both up-to-date and accessible, to convey the fire corps’ history and its commendable rescue work and assistance in a contemporary language.
Furthermore, its promoters had the challenge of becoming a national and international reference point in the creation, research and dissemination of knowledge in matters of security and prevention.
MagmaCultura strives to achieve the following goals:
We began the process by designing the museological project. Once the design was defined, we moved onto the museographic design of the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. To this end, among others, we carried out the following specific tasks.
Since it opened in 2016, the Espai Bombers Prevention Park has grown as a leading space in the field of safety and prevention and has developed its own permanent and temporary exhibition programme.
Over the years, it has succeeded in heightening society’s awareness of the role of the Fire and Rescue Services (SPEIS) and has highlighted the important role of the Barcelona fire brigade both in everyday life and in historical events that bore a tremendous impact on the city, such as Tragic Week, the Spanish Civil War and the fires at the Liceu opera house.
The Espai Bombers Prevention Park has grown as a leading space in the field of safety and prevention and has developed its own permanent and temporary exhibition programme.
